Joining as a New Member

Completing the Application Form
Prospective members of the BSG are required to complete the online application on the BSG website at the time of completing the purchase - Become a member | The British Society of Gastroenterology (bsg.org.uk)  Applications from any healthcare professional or scientist with an interest in Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology will be considered.
Please select the most appropriate membership category, which will depend on your professional status. If you are unsure what the most appropriate membership category is for you, then please contact the membership team at membership@bsg.org.uk

  • BSG Membership is for medical, nursing or allied health professionals not employed in a company selling medical equipment or pharmaceutical products for-profit.
  • The BSG reserves the right to cancel membership for any members that are found to be working in a company selling medical equipment or pharmaceutical products for-profit.
  • For members that change career path and move into roles selling medical equipment or pharmaceutical products for-profit, the BSG will refund any membership fees on a pro-rata basis.
Once your membership is activated you will be given a membership number which can be found in your account area once you login to your BSG account. Please keep a note of your membership number as you will need it when you register for reduced fees for the Annual Conference and other events. By registering as a member of The BSG you consent for us to send all BSG communications to you via the email you register your membership with.

Payment of Fees
All applicants are required to pay the appropriate annual subscription upon joining the BSG. All applications are reviewed to ensure the applicant has been assigned to the correct membership category. Where an incorrect membership category has been selected, the BSG will advise you accordingly. Your details will be amended and you will be required to pay the correct subscription.
All fees are payable to the Society in Pounds Sterling. Direct debit is the preferred payment method, but you can also pay by debit or credit card. Membership will be activated once the full payment has been received, either by direct debit or debit/credit card payment.

Cancelling your New Membership for BSG
You may cancel your application within 28 working days of receipt of our confirmation and will receive a refund of fees paid. You must make any such request in writing, by post, or by email to membership@bsg.org.uk. A refund of the subscription fee paid will be sent to you within 14 days of the receipt of your notice of cancellation.

If you cancel your membership after 28 days, you will not receive a refund.

Membership Renewals
Members are required to renew their membership each year. For members who pay by direct debit and credit card this will be collected automatically. For those who pay by credit or debit card you will be advised of the renewal by a reminder on the renewal date.  If payment has not been received within 14 days of the renewal date, membership will lapse and access to member benefits will cease. If a member then decides to re-join the BSG, they will be charged the 12-month rate and their membership subscription will run from the date of payment.

It is the members’ responsibility to keep the BSG informed of any change in their personal details or professional status. Current information on your member details can be accessed by logging in to your personal online profile bsg.org.uk/login.html. For members who change subscription category, such as Trainees moving to Consultant, please advise the membership team (membership@bsg.org.uk) at the earliest opportunity. The BSG will update your member category and subscription in accordance with the entry criteria. If you wish to make any changes to your membership and subscription, please contact the BSG team a minimum of 4 weeks before the renewal date to allow sufficient time for us to make amendments before the start of the new subscription year. This is particularly important when payments are collected by direct debit.

Cancellation and Refund Policy for Members
Membership is on an annual basis and no refunds will be given to members who resign during the year. If you wish to cancel your BSG membership you must inform us by email at  membership@bsg.org.uk.

Joining to get Preferential Rates for the Annual Conference and Short Courses
One of the important member benefits is a significant discount on the fee for attending the BSG Annual Conference and other BSG endorsed events. In order to take advantage of this benefit you must be a member at the time of booking the event. This means you must join the BSG and pay your subscription before booking a place at an event. You will need your membership number to get the discounted rate. Please ensure you leave enough time for your membership application to be approved, which can take up to 7 days.

If you either cancel or do not renew your membership between booking a place at BSG event (such as the BSG Annual Conference or BSG Endoscopy Live) and you paid the member rate, you will be asked to pay the difference between the member and non-member rate. We cannot guarantee your place at the event until full payment has been received.

Cancellation Survey
If you decide to cancel your membership, it would be appreciated if you could take time to complete our Cancellation Survey. We would like to learn about why you decided to cancel your account to help us improve our service. Your responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with any other third party.
