B.  Hazard Communication: Right to Understand (GHS)

IAW HazCom 2012 (h)(1) The following school staff are required to complete training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and safety data sheets.

C.  Medication Administration: Epinephrine Auto-Injectors

IAW TAN 312738The school will require annual in-service education to all appropriate staff to ensure understanding and follow-through of all procedures. The following staff must complete this training annually:

• Bus drivers
• Custodians

D.  DCF Child Abuse

IAW FS 1012.98 (12) School staff will participate in continuing education training provided by the Department of Children and Families on identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.  All staff are required to complete this training once.  The training is performed on the DCF website.

E.  Student Suicide Prevention

IAW with F.S. 1012.584 The school board recognizes that suicide has become one of the leading causes of death for Florida's youth. To address the problem of student suicide, the board requires the completion of suicide prevention educational training for all instructional and administrative staff as part of the school's professional development program. The suicide educational resources will utilize material approved by the Statewide Office for Suicide Prevention, the Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition, and the Coordinated School Health Resource Center.

Instructional and administrative staff will be trained to recognize signs of suicidal ideation as well as what to do when students threaten or attempt suicide. Suicide ideation is the process of fantasizing, planning, practicing, and motivating oneself to commit suicide. Any such signs or the report of such signs from another student or staff member should be taken with the utmost seriousness. Families, community members, and students are encouraged to report any such signs to the Principal.

Professional development training in youth suicide prevention shall be provided for instructional and administrative staff.

Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention
A two (2) hour continuing education program of youth suicide awareness and prevention training, utilizing training materials from the list approved by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) shall be required to be completed by school staff. Instruction about how to identify appropriate mental health services and how to refer youth and their families to those services shall be included in the program.

The training shall be included in the existing continuing education or in-service training requirements for instructional personnel. If all instructional personnel at the school participates in the two (2) hours of youth suicide awareness and prevention training our school will be considered “Suicide Prevention Certified School".

F.  Non-Medical Assistive Staff

Per F.S. 1006.062, non-medical assistive (NMA) personnel in each school, designated by the principal, will be trained to assist students with medication administration.   NMAs will receive the following training.

• Administering Medications to Students
• First Aid Training 64F-6.005 F.A.C
• CPR Training 64F-6.005 F.A.C
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training
• Head Lice Training
• EpiPen®/TwinJect Training
• Other Child specific training as required (such as the use of Diastat and Glucagon)

G.  Bus Drivers

Training for transportation staff will be conducted at the beginning of each school year and periodically during the school year for new employees.

• Employee training will include, but not be limited to:
• Overview of diabetes, epilepsy and asthma in schools/Emergency Plan of Care
• Allergic Reactions/Emergency Plan of Care
• Child Specific Student Procedures as Indicated
