Equal Opportunity Policy

    Scope

    This policy applies to all members, staff, contractors, volunteers, and participants of the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA). It is aimed at promoting equal opportunities and eliminating discrimination in all aspects of the association's operations, including employment, participation, and decision-making.

    Audience

    This policy applies to all individuals involved with SPBA, including but not limited to players, coaches, officials, administrators, support staff, and spectators. It is expected that all individuals associated with SPBA comply with this policy and promote equal opportunity principles.

    Objective

    SPBA is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment where all individuals are treated fairly and with respect, regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

    Equal Opportunity Principles

    SPBA upholds the following principles of equal opportunity:

    1. All individuals have a right to equal treatment and opportunities, free from discrimination and harassment.
    2. Decisions regarding employment, promotion, selection, and participation will be based on merit, qualifications, and abilities.

    Responsibilities

    SPBA is committed to ensuring equal opportunity and prohibits discrimination, harassment, victimization, and retaliation. The responsibilities of all individuals associated with SPBA are:

    1. Respect and abide by this Equal Opportunity Policy and related SPBA policies.
    2. Treat others fairly and with respect, regardless of their protected characteristics or differences.
    3. Report any incidents of discrimination, harassment, victimization, or retaliation promptly to the appropriate contact person in SPBA.
    4. Cooperate fully with any investigations conducted by SPBA regarding alleged breaches of this policy.

    Complaint Procedure

    SPBA has established a complaint procedure to address any concerns or complaints regarding discrimination, harassment, victimization, or retaliation. Any individual who believes they have been subjected to such behavior or witnessed it should follow the complaint procedure outlined in the SPBA Member Protection Policy.

    Consequences of Breach

    SPBA takes any breach of this Equal Opportunity Policy seriously. Individuals found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, which could include but is not limited to, reprimand, suspension, termination, and banning from SPBA activities or reporting to the Basketball Victoria Tribunal. The severity of the consequences will depend on the nature and frequency of the breach.

    Policy Review

    This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
