Community Competition Participation Policy - Junior Sharks

    Scope

This policy applies to all Junior Sharks players and is aimed at ensuring their participation in the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA) Community Competition for the purpose of skill development and fostering strong relationships.

    Audience

This policy applies to all Junior Sharks players, their parents or guardians, and the coaching staff.

    Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to require Junior Sharks players to participate in the SPBA Community Competition on a weekly basis. This policy aims to encourage a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all members to develop their skills and build strong relationships with their peers.

    Requirements

All Junior Sharks players are required to participate in the SPBA Community Competition in both the Summer and Winter seasons. In both seasons, they are required to participate in enough games to be eligible for finals, which is at least 50% of the games.

    Exemptions

A player can apply for an exemption if they meet any two of the following criteria:

    • Selection in Basketball Victoria State Development Program
    • Participation in Big V Youth League Team (excluding train only players)
    • Currently in Year 12 VCE
    • Residing more than 45 minutes from Dromana Stadium

A player may also be eligible for an exemption if they meet any one of the following criteria:

    • Participation in Basketball Victoria State Team or National Performance Program
    • Participation in Big V Senior Team
    • Medical Clearance AND where it is determined workload cannot be reduced elsewhere

All exemption requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the final approval will be at the discretion of the Head of Basketball.

New players to SPBA have a grace period of the first domestic season to find a team. Consideration is taken for players who are actively attempting to find a team.

In exceptional circumstances, the Head of Basketball can raise an exemption request for decision by the Participation Sub-Committee.

    Non-Participation

If a player does not actively participate in the SPBA Community Competition without an exemption, they may be prevented from participating in Junior Sharks games.
