First Aid Policy
Scope
This policy applies to all staff members of the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA) who are responsible for providing first aid services during events and activities. The policy aims to clarify the limitations of first aid services provided by SPBA and ensure the safety and well-being of staff, participants, and visitors.
Audience
This policy applies to all first aid qualified staff members of SPBA who are responsible for providing first aid services during events and activities.
Limitations of First Aid Services
While SPBA may have first aid qualified staff members available during events and activities, the scope of first aid services provided by SPBA is limited to basic first aid treatments. These treatments include the application of ice and band-aids for minor injuries.
First aid qualified staff members should assess the severity of injuries and provide appropriate care within their training and capabilities. In cases where the injury or medical condition requires advanced medical attention and intervention, SPBA staff members should promptly refer the individual to the appropriate medical professionals or emergency services.
SPBA staff members should not provide medical care or treatments beyond their scope of training and qualifications. This includes but is not limited to administering medication, performing invasive procedures, or providing advanced life support.
Emergency Response
SPBA staff members should be trained and knowledgeable in emergency response procedures, including how to activate emergency services and provide assistance until help arrives.
In case of a medical emergency, SPBA staff members should follow the designated emergency response protocols, provide necessary assistance within their scope of training, and coordinate with emergency services to ensure appropriate medical care is promptly provided.
Communication and Documentation
SPBA staff members should maintain clear and accurate documentation of any first aid provided. This includes recording the nature of the injury or medical condition, the treatment provided, and any referrals or follow-up actions taken.
In situations where advanced medical care is required, staff members should communicate effectively and promptly with emergency services, providing accurate and relevant information to ensure the individual receives appropriate care.
Non-Liability
SPBA and its first aid qualified staff members are not liable for any adverse outcomes or complications that may arise as a result of the limited first aid services provided within their scope of training and qualifications.
Participants, visitors, and other individuals utilizing SPBA facilities or participating in SPBA events are responsible for their own health and well-being. It is recommended that individuals have their own medical insurance coverage for any potential medical needs beyond basic first aid.
Review and Compliance
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated as necessary to ensure compliance with any changes in legislation, best practices, or industry standards.
