Audience
This policy applies to all coaches, selectors, administrators, and volunteers involved in the selection process for the Junior Sharks program at SPBA.
Selection Process
The selection process for the Junior Sharks program will be conducted in a fair, transparent, and unbiased manner. It will consist of the following steps:
- Announcement of Selection Trials: The SPBA will announce the dates, times, and locations of selection trials well in advance to allow interested players to prepare.
- Eligibility Criteria: Players must meet the eligibility criteria set by SPBA, including age requirements, membership status, and any other applicable guidelines.
- Registration: Interested players must register their participation in the selection trials by submitting the required forms and fees within the specified deadline.
- Player Evaluation: The selection trials will be conducted by qualified and impartial coaches and selectors who will evaluate the players' skills, abilities, attitude, and potential.
- Selection Panel: A selection panel consisting of experienced coaches and selectors will be appointed to make the final decisions regarding team selections.
- Selection Criteria: The selection panel will base their decisions on various factors, including player performance during trials, compatibility with team dynamics, commitment and attitude, and overall potential to contribute to the Junior Sharks program.
- Communication of Results: The selected players will be notified personally, and the final team rosters will be announced publicly on a specified date.
Appeals Process
If a player or their parent/guardian disagrees with the selection decision, they may lodge an appeal following the established appeals process. The appeals process will be fair and confidential, involving a separate appeals panel appointed by SPBA.
Appeals must be submitted in writing, stating the specific grounds for the appeal, within a specified timeframe after the communication of the team selections.
The appeals panel will review the appeal, consider any relevant evidence or information provided, and make a final determination. The decision of the appeals panel will be binding and final.
Player Feedback and Development
SPBA is committed to providing feedback to all players who participated in the selection process, regardless of the outcome. Feedback will be constructive, encouraging, and focused on areas of improvement.
Additionally, SPBA will offer development opportunities to players who did not make the final team selections but show potential. These opportunities may include participation in training sessions, skill clinics, or alternative competition pathways.
Conflicts of Interest
All selectors, coaches, administrators, and volunteers involved in the selection process must disclose any conflicts of interest that may compromise their impartiality or fairness. They must recuse themselves from any decision-making involving players with whom they have a personal or vested interest.
SPBA will enforce a zero-tolerance policy towards any attempts to influence the selection process through personal biases or unfair means.
Code of Conduct
All individuals involved in the selection process must adhere to the SPBA Code of Conduct. This includes treating all players, parents/guardians, and fellow selectors/coaches with respect, integrity, and fairness.
Breaches of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, as per the SPBA Disciplinary Policy.
Policy Review
This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated by SPBA to ensure its effectiveness, compliance with regulations, and alignment with the goals and values of the Junior Sharks program.
Suggestions for policy improvements or amendments can be submitted to the SPBA management for consideration.
