Fundraising Policy

    Scope & Audience

    This policy applies to all members, employees, volunteers, and contractors of the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA) involved in fundraising activities, both association-run and independent-run.

    Association-Run Fundraising

    The SPBA may organize and run fundraising activities to support the operations and development of the association, a charity or cause. These activities shall be approved by the SPBA General Manager.

    Types of fundraising that can occur for association-run fundraising may include, but are not limited to:

    • Annual appeals and solicitation of donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations.
    • Sponsorships and partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
    • Hosting fundraising events such as dinners, auctions, raffles, or tournaments.
    • Participation in existing community events or programs that align with SPBA's mission and purpose.

    Types of fundraising that cannot occur for association-run fundraising may include, but are not limited to:

    • Engaging in illegal or fraudulent activities.
    • Soliciting funds from individuals or organizations with a known questionable reputation.
    • Engaging in activities that may harm the reputation or brand of SPBA.

    Independent-Run Fundraising

    Individuals or groups may initiate independent fundraising activities for particular causes or charities. As a general rule SPBA cannot endorse independent run fundraising, however, will support where able and appropriate.

    Types of fundraising that can occur for independent-run fundraising may include, but are not limited to:

    • Participating in community organized fundraising events or campaigns.
    • Organizing personal or team-based sponsorship drives such as "run-for-a-cause" or crowdfunding campaigns.
    • Conducting bake sales, car washes, or other small-scale fundraising events.

    Types of fundraising that cannot occur for independent-run fundraising may include, but are not limited to:

    • Endorsement by the SPBA.
    • Using SPBA's name, logo, or intellectual property.
    • Engaging in activities that may create conflicts of interest or competition with association-run fundraising efforts.
    • Engaging in activities that may directly or indirectly harm the reputation or brand of SPBA.
