Wet Floor Policy

    Scope

This policy applies to all personnel and participants of the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA) who utilize the association's venues and is aimed at ensuring a safe environment in the event of water on the court due to roof leaks.

    Audience

This policy applies to all staff members, referees, coaches, players, and spectators of the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA).

    Water on the Court

After significant rainfall, it is possible that the roof at some venues may develop leaks, resulting in water on the court. In such instances, it is the responsibility of the Customer Service Officer, in consultation with the Referee Supervisor, to assess the situation and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.

If a roof leak can be safely managed by being wiped up, the Customer Service Officer must promptly address the issue and confirm that the area is safe to continue activity. This may involve the use of appropriate signage or warnings to alert individuals of the potential hazard if it is in an off court area.

If, after assessment, the roof leak cannot be safely managed by simply wiping up the water, it is imperative that all activity on the affected court area ceases immediately. This applies to both games and training sessions.

If a game is occurring on the affected court, it cannot continue until the roof leak has been resolved and the court has been deemed safe for play. Officials and team representatives should communicate the situation to the teams and spectators, providing updates on the estimated time for resolution if possible.

If training is the activity taking place, the training session may be restricted to another area of the floor if it is safe to do so. Coaches should evaluate the available space and determine the viability of moving the training to another area within the same venue while still ensuring the safety of all participants.

SPBA staff members should log as an incident and report to the relative school.

Adherence to this policy is crucial for the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in SPBA activities. Any violation or failure to follow this policy may result in disciplinary action, as determined by SPBA management.
