Transgender & Gender Diverse Inclusion Policy
Scope
Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA) adopt the Basketball Australia Guidelines for the Inclusion of Transgender & Gender Diverse People. This summary provides an overview of the Basketball Australia policy which can be viewed in full at the end of this document.
This policy applies to all participants, including players, coaches, referees, staff, volunteers, and spectators involved with the SPBA. The policy is intended to promote inclusivity and respect for transgender and gender diverse individuals within the basketball community.
Transgender & Gender Diverse Inclusion
The SPBA is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for transgender and gender diverse individuals. Participants must respect the chosen name, pronouns, and gender identity of all individuals, regardless of legal or medical status.
Players and teams may participate in SPBA competitions and events in alignment with their gender identity which must be nominated at the point of registration. No individual shall be denied participation based on their gender identity.
Transgender and gender diverse individuals may choose to use restroom and changing facilities that correspond with their gender identity. If additional privacy accommodations are requested, the SPBA will work to provide suitable solutions.
Anti-Discrimination
The SPBA strictly prohibits any form of discrimination or harassment based on a person's gender identity, gender expression, or transgender status. This includes but is not limited to verbal insults, slurs, derogatory comments, or exclusionary behavior.
Any instances of discrimination or harassment should be reported to the SPBA management or designated representative as outlined in the SPBA Member Protection Policy.
Education and Training
The SPBA shall provide education and training to its participants and stakeholders, including coaches, staff, volunteers, and referees, to promote understanding and inclusivity for transgender and gender diverse individuals. This may include workshops, resources, and training materials.
Regular reviews and updates to this policy will be conducted to ensure its ongoing effectiveness and compliance with emerging legislation and best practices.
