Coach Supervision Policy
Scope
This policy applies to all coaches and players participating in basketball programs at Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA). It covers the coach to player ratio for non competition based activities such as Development Programs, High Performance Programs, and Inclusion Programs.
Audience
This policy applies to all coaches, players, and program administrators at SPBA who are involved in basketball programs.
Development Programs
In Development Programs at SPBA, the coach to player ratio will be 1:10. This means that for every 10 participants in the program, there should be at least one coach assigned to provide guidance and instruction.
The purpose of this ratio is to ensure that each player in the Development Programs receives adequate attention, coaching, and support to develop their basketball skills and knowledge effectively.
High Performance Programs
In High Performance Programs at SPBA, the coach to player ratio will be 1:5. This means that for every 5 participants in the program, there should be at least one coach assigned to provide advanced training, skill development, and strategic instruction.
The lower coach to player ratio in High Performance Programs reflects the focus on higher levels of competition and the need for more individualized attention and training for players aiming to excel in their basketball performance.
Inclusion Programs
In Inclusion Programs at SPBA, the coach to player ratio will be 1:6. This means that for every 6 participants in the program, there should be at least one coach assigned to create an inclusive and supportive environment for players of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
The lower coach to player ratio in Inclusion Programs acknowledges the need for additional support, guidance, and personalized attention to ensure that all participants feel included, empowered, and have equal opportunities to participate and enjoy the basketball program. This includes programs for Under 5s.
Implementation and Monitoring
It is the responsibility of the program administrators at SPBA to ensure that the appropriate coach to player ratios are maintained for Development Programs, High Performance Programs, and Inclusion Programs.
Regular monitoring and evaluation will be conducted to verify that the coach to player ratios are being followed and to address any concerns or adjustments needed.
Program administrators may consider factors such as the age, skill level, and specific needs of the participants when determining the exact coach to player ratios within the guidelines provided.
Any changes to the coach to player ratios for basketball programs at SPBA must be approved by the General Manager before implementation.
Non-Compliance
Program administrators and coaches should report any concerns or non-compliance with the coach to player ratio to the appropriate supervisory personnel for prompt resolution.
