Business Profitability and Reporting

Business Profitability

Understanding productivity
Productivity is a measure of the Squire PoS that is calculated around the amount of appointments a stylist has in relation to their total hours worked for the time frame designated. Productivity is shown in the Leaderboard report and in the Sales by Barber report in Squire. Productivity is not a measure of a stylists skills or motivation. However, it is the manager's responsibility to make data driven decisions to ensure the motivation of the stylist and the shop. A productivity percentage over 75% for any period over 3 weeks is a key indicator of the need to hire. It is a managers responsibility to routinely check productivity percentages for the need to hire and alert CHOP corp when that time arises.

Identifying staff performance

Managers should be aware of their top performing staff, not only to appreciate, reward, and support them, but also to understand what behaviors and strategies they are using to be successful, then coaching the bottom performing staff. Top performing staff can be identified in multiple ways and reports. However the Barber Sales Summary report displays the top five stylists in multiple areas of staff performance. Typically a store will have two types of barbers.  The hustling barber does not need much coaching.  They know their numbers and they are on their books often, looking for opportunities to add appointments.  The non-hustling barbers do 30 and 45 minute appointments only and are not on their books looking for opportunities to add appointments.  You as a manager should know which barbers fall into which category and be prepared to coach and talk to the non-hustling barbers often to improve their timing and teach ways to move appointments to open up opportunity for customer booking.  One of your most important jobs as managers is reviewing your books daily for opportunities to move appointments around and advertise extra shifts to maximize the shop's ability to accept customer bookings. If a client cannot book with CHOP, it is likely they will book with someone else and we could lost that customer long term.

Identifying product performance

Managers should be aware of their top performing products to better inform the decisions made when restocking, and coach staff to increase sales. Squire provides a Sales by Product report that identifies products sales in multiple ways.

Looking for local marketing opportunities
Keeping the CHOP brand in the view of the local area is beneficial to both the shop and its stylists. Managers should always be keeping their eyes out for opportunities to market the brand and bring more customers to the shop. Local events and festivals are great options. Establishing connections with local business groups like small business networks or chamber of commerce may offer more of these opportunities. Guidelines and other useful information is available on the CHOP Admin Portal
