Cleanliness & Sanitation

Opening and Closing Checklists

Each shop should have a opening and closing checklist for staff to ensure that daily cleaning tasks are being completed. Managers can find template opening and closing checklists in Sweet Process. Additionally, when staff are on the floor but do not have an active appointment, they should use that time to look for opportunities to maintain the shop's cleaning and sanitation, like laundry, sweeping, dusting, restocking retail shelves, etc.

Shop floor

Hair is always going to be everywhere in a barbershop, we understand that; however, keeping the shop floor clean requires continual attention to sweeping, and mopping. Managers are expected to ensure multiple brooms and hand brushes should be easily available to staff. Additional attention should be paid to the corners in the shop where hair and cleaning products tend to build up.

The shop floor is painted and coated with a gloss sealant, which does get damaged over time. Managers are expected to observe the wear on the shop floor and report any maintenance needs to CHOP leadership.

Stylist stations

Managers are expected to coach staff to maintain the functionality and cleanliness of the stations they use. This includes the mirror, dusting all trim, and removing all hair and built up product. Managers are expected to observe the wear on stations and report any maintenance needs to CHOP leadership.

Bathroom

Shop bathrooms get a lot of use and require daily cleaning as part of the opening and closing procedures. Managers are expected to ensure bathrooms are clean and items such as toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning supplies are well stocked at all times.

Breakroom

Typically, these areas contain a mini fridge for staff food and a water dispenser. If your shop has a space dedicated for staff breaks, managers are expected to maintain the cleanliness of that area.
