7.215 AP Disciplinary Probationary Contracts
1. The following are guidelines to be used in execution, monitoring and revoking probationary contracts entered into pursuant to Board Policy 7:215. Because these are only guidelines, the Principal shall always retain discretion to deviate from the guidelines if good cause exists.
2. The Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources has authority to execute a Probationary Contract (Contract) for student offenses that could result in the student’s expulsion under the conditions set forth in Board Policy 7:215.
3. If a Contract is recommended it shall be in substantially the same form as set out in 7:215-E1. Modifications to the form can be made by the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
4. Monthly reports may be compiled by the Assistant Principals in charge of student discipline. The monthly report shall include all students enrolled in the school who are on a Contract. The monthly report shall be submitted to the Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. The Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources shall redact all identifiable information from the report and then submit the report to the School Board at the regularly scheduled Board meetings.
5. The Principal has the authority to recommend to the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources that the Contract be rescinded and the student be expelled.
6. While a Contract may be rescinded for any violation, the following are general guidelines for the rescission:
1. Rule Violations = Any violation of the School Board Policy or the School Handbook that are punishable by suspension or expulsion should result in the rescission of the Contract.
2. Attendance
After the third unexcused absence, an Assistant Principal shall meet with the student and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) to discuss the violation of the Contract and the consequences of further unexcused absences.
After the fourth unexcused absence the Contract should be rescinded.
For purposes of this section, an “unexcused absence” means one period or more during a given day.
3. Academic Achievement = The Assistant Principals shall review the grades of all students on contract at the midterm and quarters to track academic achievement. At the discretion of the Principal, if the student is not working diligently towards obtaining good grades and progress toward graduation, the Principal should rescind the Contract.
