Summative Designations & School Improvement Grant SOP

    When identified as a Targeted or Comprehensive Support, follow this process to write for the School Improvement Grant and access the funding available. This process includes a Needs Assessment and SIP Template to address the underperforming subgroups.

      Preliminary Notification

      District receives advanced notification of a Targeted or Comprehensive Support designation for 1 or more schools.

      Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent informs the School Board and principals.  Information is to remain confidential until ISBE releases the designations officially at the end of October.

      Official Designation

      ISBE announces the official Summative Designations for each school at the end of October.

      Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent communicate to the community and are available for comment to the local media.

      Superintendent provides verbiage to the principals to communicate to their families.

      Consultation

      October/November
      Assistant Superintendent meets with the principal and available members of the SIP team, other admin, ICs, etc. to review the designation and the matrix provided by ISBE. Additional CO staff may be brought in to support the process.

      School Improvement Planning and Grant

      November/December
      Assistant Superintendent, other CO admin, principal, and other staff from the school (SIP, ICs, other admin) meet to complete the IBAM Needs Assessment, SIP Plan, and information needed to complete the School Improvement Grant.

      Principal and team researches Illinois approved Empower Learning Partners to support the SIP Plan.

      Assistant Superintendent writes the grant in IWAS and submits it to ISBE for approval.

      December
      School Board approves the SIP Plan.

      School Improvement Action Steps

      Winter-Summer
      Principal utilizes the School Improvement Grant Funds to support the SI Action Steps.

      Documentation is collected in a SIP Grant Folder.  Documentation typically includes: Agendas, sign in sheets, handouts/materials, invoices for PD, registration, contracts for PD, etc.

      Grant Revisions and Continued Consultation

      Winter-Summer

      Assistant Superintendent provides support and consultation as schools use their funds.

      Principal will communicate with Assistant Superintendent if any revisions are necessary and Assistant Superintendent will amend the grant and submit to ISBE for approval.

      Wrap Up

      All grant activities need to be complete by the end of July.
