1Communication
Admin (Assistant Superintendent) will oversee this process by providing guidance and support as needed.
Admin will ensure that communication is updated on the website every year by Kinder Orientation/Registration. Website information should be posted prior to March 1. -
2CommunicationDuring March-May the Assistant Superintendent will work with the Communications Coordinator to communicate with families in March through early May about how to formally request an early entrance to kinder screening. All forms will be updated prior to communication.

3Parent Request
Parent formally requests early entrance to Kindergarten by filling out a Request for Screening form between March 1st and May 15th. Screening will be held in June.
Parent provides proof of residency, copy of parent’s ID, and a copy of the Birth Certificate.
If a family cannot make the week in June, then an alternate screening date will be designated in mid-August. -
4Processing the Request
Clerical staff adds information to the Request for Screening form spreadsheet as parents turn in their paperwork (residency, birth cert, copy of parent's ID).
All other info on the spreadsheet will be added in at a later date by the screening team. -
5Appointments
Clerical staff schedules an appointment for the child to be assessed in June at a designated elementary school. Scheduling is done around Memorial Day and after the paper has turned in necessary paperwork.
If a family is out of town in June, they will be notified at the beginning of August of an alternate date scheduled for mid-August.
If a family moves in to the district after the May 15th deadline, but prior to August 1st, then may request a screening on the alternate date scheduled for mid-August. -
6Reminder Letter
1-2 weeks prior to screening A reminder letter is mailed home to families with the child’s date/time written at the top.

7Screening Team (June)The screening team shall include 2-3 staff members (for example) a school psychologist, social worker, and Kindergarten teacher.
Student will be assessed in early literacy/ early numeracy skills and on a nonverbal ability screener.
Parent/student will provide information regarding social/emotional and other developmental stages through Ages and Stages screener. (Also used in our prek programs)
The child’s results are reviewed and a determination is made as to whether the student is eligible to start Kindergarten early.
Naglieri Assessment-
Score of 120 & Up: Qualifies unless there is a significant concern in another area during the screening process
Score of 115-119: Review & look for other qualifying factors collected during the screening process to confirm appropriate placement
Determination is added to the “Results” section of the Early Entrance Spreadsheet.
Assistant Superintendent will communicate to principals the names of the students who qualify. -
8Qualification LetterA letter will be mailed to the parent stating whether the student qualified, additional testing is needed, or the student did not qualify.

9RegistrationIf their child qualifies, the parent would fill out new student registration paperwork online.

10Home School AvailabilityIf there are no seats available at the home school, the Registrar will use the overflow chart and/or consult with the administrator in charge of registration.

11Kinder CommunicationPrincipals update the Kinder team if the student has been admitted through the early entrance process.

12Review TeamIf the student is struggling in Kindergarten, a principal may assemble a team to review the data and meet with the parent. Additional support will be discussed and whether the placement is still appropriate for the student. Guidance for this process can be found in the Retention SOP.
