14.03 Benefit Continuation upon Termination
CHPC’s Medical Insurance plan is a “church plan” expressly exempt from mandatory continued health coverage for terminated employees under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (“COBRA”). Although CHPC is exempt from participation in COBRA, we may offer continuation of medical insurance upon termination of employment. When an employee concludes employment with CHPC, the employee is eligible to continue participating in the CHPC group medical plan for a specified period. This election is offered at time of termination and the employee requests coverage through the insurance carrier directly.
Coverage will cease if the former employee fails to make premium payments as scheduled, becomes covered by another group plan after electing continuation coverage, or becomes eligible for Medicare
