SC | ShipStation - Shopify Order Fraud Alerts

This document will outline how the Shopify to ShipStation Order Fraud Alert operates and is set up in ShipStation.

Here is the ShipStation documentation on this feature: Here is how Shopify Fraud Analysis operates:

    Feature Overview

    • Orders can be imported from Shopify into ShipStation with one of three (3) fraud alert statuses:
      • Accept
      • Investigate
      • Cancel
    • Those three statuses can be used to automate order holds and accepts.
      • If an order imports with 'Accept' then the order can be imported and accepted without issue or need to verify the order
      • If an order imports with 'Investigate' then we could put a 24 hr hold on the order for your team to investigate before releasing
      • If an order imports with 'Cancel' then we could put an indefinite hold on the order and would need a manual release from hold to ship.

      Enabled under ShipStation Shopify Settings

To enable this feature, when ShipCalm integrates the selling channel we map Custom Field 2 in ShipStation to receive the Fraud Alerts from Shopify.

      1. Under Store Setup, select the three dots on the Shopify Store channel and select 'Edit Store Details'.
      2. Then select 'Edit Shopify Settings' at the bottom of the screen under 'Shopify Connection Settings'.
      3. In the Shopify settings window, Custom Field 2 can be set to 'Fraud Risk'.

      Automation Rule Set Up

The Automation Rules in ShipStation can be used to create unique rules for each of the three (3) Fraud Risk statuses; Cancel, Investigate, and Accept

      • If Custom Field 2 contains '[Status]', do the following action:
        • [Status] = Cancel, Investigate, Accept
      • Default Action
        • Set the Ship From Location on the order to FRAUD
        • Add a Tag to the order called 'Fraud - [Status]'

      Possible Other Actions:

      • Send an email for every order flagged with this Fraud status.
      • Hold the order for # of Days
      • Hold the order until specific MM/DD/YYYY

      How to Action Fraud Orders?

In this step, we will focus on the statuses of Cancel and Investigate as they highlight HIGH and MEDIUM level Fraud orders.
      • Orders with a status of 'Accept' orders are typically need no attention.

Note: The orders in their current state of being assigned to a Ship From Location other than #ShipCalm will not be imported into the ShipClam system or shipped until the order is adjusted in ShipStation.

When an order is flagged as Cancel or Investigate, Shopify has flagged the order as potential fraud. It is best practice to investigate and confirm the order in Shopify to verify if the order is in fact fraud.

What do I do if the order is FRAUD?

If the order is determined to be FRAUD the order should be:
      • Canceled in Shopify and confirmed canceled in ShipStation

What do I do if the order is NOT FRAUD?

If the order is determined to NOT be FRAUD the order should:
      • Update the Ship From location on the order in ShipStation from 'FRAUD' to the #ShipCalm location the order should ship from and the order will be released for fulfillment.
