ReportingThe IBD Section Committee is accountable to the BSG President Elect.
Purpose- To support training, education, research and guidelines of IBD within the BSG.
- To work alongside different external bodies to promote the expanding role of IBD in the UK.
- To represent the interests and issues of the BSG members specialised in IBD.
- To manage the future direction of the IBD committee in accordance with shifts in the NHS.
- To develop professional collaborations nationally and internationally with the formal approval of the Executive.
- To support the recruitment and retention of members in the specialty of Gastroenterology.
Duties- The IBD Section Chair will serve as the ECCO National representative.
- The IBD Section Chair will serve as a Director of the IBD Registry.
- To improve the care of patients with IBD within the whole of the UK.
- To support the clinical community with regard to service provision and drug availability.
- To support high quality education on inflammatory bowel disease.
- To interact with Crohn`s and Colitis UK to support patients with IBD.
- To support IBD research in the UK.
- To facilitate the availability and appropriative use of new therapies in IBD.
- To advise NICE/SMC on their technology assessments in IBD.
- To develop & update clinical guidelines & produce guidance documents.
- To guide on the IBD quality improvement.
- To produce an annual educational programme for the BSG national meeting.
- To hold a monothematic meeting every 3 years to promote the work of the specialty group to the broader community.
Membership- The Section Committee must have a minimum of 4 members and a maximum of 12, one of which must be a trainee.
- The Chair and Secretary must be elected members and have a minimum of 1 year, of their 3 year term, left when elected by the Committee as Chair and Secretary.
- The appointment term for committee membership is 3 years.
- The Chair and Secretary will be elected from the membership of the Committee and will each serve 3 years.
- A representative from the BSGNA.
- A representative of the RCN IBD Nurse Group.
- The Chair is able to co-opt members to join the Committee with the approval of the Section. Co-opted members will be ‘task and time limited’ to respect the democratic election process within the Society. Co-opted members should not be granted ongoing roles within the Committee after the timebound task for which they have been co-opted. A record of co-opted members should be agreed by the Committee and members should be stood down once their task is completed.
The meeting will be quorate if, as a minimum, the following members are present:
