BSGNA Terms of Reference

Reporting
The BSGNA Section Committee is accountable to the President Elect of the BSG.
 
Purpose
  • To support training, education, research and guidelines pertinent to nursing within the BSG.
  • To work alongside external bodies to promote the expanding role of nursing in England and the devolved nations.
  • To represent the interests and concerns of the BSG members specialising in Gastrointestinal nursing.
  • To manage the future direction of the BSGNA Section Committee in line with changes within the NHS.
  • To develop professional collaborations nationally and internationally with the formal approval of the Executive.
  • To support recruitment and retention of members in the speciality of Gastroenterology and endoscopy.
  • To hold a monothematic meeting every 3 years to promote the work of the speciality group to the broader community.
Duties
  • To hold at least three meetings per calendar year.
  • To monitor delivery of the BSGNA Section Committee strategy and provide an annual report to the President Elect at the BSG on the Committee’s activity for the last 12 months.
  • To work with BSG members and external partners to develop nursing priorities.
Membership
The membership of the BSGNA Section Committee is laid out in the Regulations of the BSG.

  • The Section Committee must have a minimum of 4 members and a maximum of 12, The appointment term for committee membership is 3 years.
  • The Chair and Secretary will be elected from the membership of the Committee and will each serve 3 years.
  • The Chair and Secretary must be elected members and have a minimum of 1 year, of their 3 year term, left when elected by the Committee as Chair and Secretary.
  • The Chair is able to co-opt members to join the Committee with the approval of the Section.
  • Co-opted members will be ‘task and time limited’ to respect the democratic election process within the Society.  Co-opted members should not be granted ongoing roles within the Committee after the timebound task for which they have been co-opted.  A record of co-opted members should be agreed by the Committee and members should be stood down once their task is completed.
  • Committee Members may stand for a maximum term of 3 years after which they must be fallow for 12 months before reapplying to join the Committee.

The meeting will be quorate if, as a minimum, the following members are present:

  1. Chair or Secretary
  2. At least 4 Section representatives
