Purpose- To develop an international strategy and oversee its implementation
- To provide a mechanism for communication and partnership in matters of global health; co-ordinating professionals in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology community in the United Kingdom to deliver better care and outcomes for patients with GI disease globally
- Provide support and guidance to patients and BSG members in relation to international healthcare and healthcare systems
- To lead, collaborate and showcase ongoing quality improvement projects, demonstrating improvements in patient care and outcomes or improved educational outcomes in the context of international collaboration
- To lead, collaborate and showcase clinical and scientific research projects that bring benefit to patients and clinical healthcare systems in the international setting
- To deliver high-quality education, including conference sessions and training events
- To provide peer-reviewed BSG project templates, educational tools and networked support to facilitate high quality clinical, training and research work in the international setting
- To maximise joint working opportunities with the other Higher Committees on matters of education, research, clinical and quality improvement.
Duties- To hold two meetings per calendar year
- The Zonal Development Leads to hold 4 meeting per year in addition to the full committee meetings
- To publish an updated strategy and operational plan at least every 3 years
- To monitor delivery of the international strategy
- To deliver International Grants projects and educational, research and service development partnerships
- To record accurate minutes of every meeting.
MembershipThe membership of the International Committee is laid out in the Regulations of the BSG.
- Chair (progression from Deputy Chair; serving a 2-year term)
- Deputy Chair (appointed by interview; serving a 2-year term as deputy and a 2-year term as Chair)
- International Zonal Development Lead - Sub-Saharan Africa (appointed by competitive interview process and serve a 3-year term)
- International Zonal Development Lead - North Africa and Middle East (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 3-year term)
- International Zonal Development Lead - Asia Pacific (incl Australia/New Zealand) (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 3-year term)
- International Zonal Development Lead - North and South America, (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 3-year term)
- Communication Lead (appointed by competitive interview process and serves a 3-year term)
- Representative from the following Higher Committees: Research Committee, Education Committee, CSSC
- Representation from the following Sections: SWIG, Nursing, Trainee
- Secretary and Senior Secretary
The chair can appoint individuals to the International Committee as deemed necessary to achieve specific tasks, but such appointments shall not exceed one years. A record of co-opted members should be agreed by the Committee and members should be stood down once their task is completed.
The chair may request attendance from the following external organisations:
- JAG International Committee Representative
- WGO Committee Representative
- WEO Committee Representative
- UEG Committee Representative
The meeting will be quorate if, as a minimum, the following members are present:
- Chair or Deputy
- Secretary or Senior Secretary
- At least 5 other committee members
