Job Description - Director of Business Development

Major Areas of Focus

The DBD is a role that focuses on two key aspects of business growth, first a safety net for client retention. The DBD oversees client satisfaction surveys and manages large portfolio clients or strategic accounts. The second area of focus is new business development. The DBD directly oversees Business Developers whose only function is to cultivate and identify new business opportunities. The DBD also supports the business units of each assigned Director of Operations  (DOO) by working closely with Account Executives. The DBD aids Account Executives with outside sales activity, ensuring that they are working as efficiently as possible and making the best use of company assets including our proprietary CRM software. The DBD attends and supports the weekly sales meetings of each business unit in his division. The DBD is an ally to the DOO, not a foe. 

As a Director the DBD is a steward of ECF Culture remembering that every deal sold by the company impacts our front-line workforce. Therefore negotiating fair and equitable contracts is paramount in preserving our culture and the protections offered to our front-line. This fact means that the DBD helps to balance sales goals with compassion for others, and by doing so contributes to a sustainable business platform. 

These roles directly report to the DBD: Inside Sales Coordinator; and these indirectly report to the DBD: Account Executives
  • Oversees all outside sales initiatives
  • Support Directors of Operations and Account Executives with sales management, training, and transactions
  • Manages strategic accounts
  • Runs diverse supplier marketing programs
  • Reports to President

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

Strategic Accounts

  • Directly manages customer accounts that have been designated as Strategic generally on the "Relationship" level
  • Develops a cohesive customer satisfaction plan that ensures our Operations team and Sales team are professionally managing customer service and service delivery to Strategic Accounts

Diversity Program Management

  • Manages all of the company's registrations with various corporations on their respective diversity portals, maintaining and updating our registration and records on said portals
  • Participates in networking events with various minority supplier chapters that are located within our market coverage area
  • Represents the company at various events and works closely with the family for appearances and networking 

Third-Party Vendor System Oversight

  • Works with the Director of Home office to ensure our registrations for various third-party vendor management systems such as Avetta, IS Net, Coupa, Jaggaer, etc. are up to date and accurate. 
  • Determines whether marketing or sales activities are warranted using third-party vendor management systems, manages related sales activities

Training

  • Trains various personnel on proper CRM utilization and record keeping best practices for sales-related records
  • Helps Account Executives to build a playbook, and schedule for optimal sales activity
  • Prepares for and implements specialized training as needed for the entire Sales and Operations teams for assigned Service Centers 

Outside Sales Support

  • Attends weekly sales checkpoint meetings with each Account Executive for assigned Service Centers
  • Support the Account Executives and Directors of Operations for assigned Service Centers with training, deal guidance, negotiations, presentations, price development
  • Is present for interviews for new Account Executives, the Director of Operations will rely on the opinions of the DBD, and if there is any disagreement that the candidate should be hired, then the matter will be escalated to the President before hiring

Image Control

  • Is neat and presentable, and balances the type of clothing that will be appropriate for each venue or event
  • Promotes etiquette, proper dress, and manners for all interactions with clients for all internal team members 

 Language Skills

While performing duties, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; may read and interpret data, information, and documents; observe and respond to people and situations; learn and apply new information or skills; work under deadlines; and interact with others encountered in the course of work. Proficiency in English is required, and the ability to speak fluent Spanish is highly beneficial. 

Physical Demands

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Long working hours are required for an emergency, urgent response, or winter weather storm management operations.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to shops and facilities that have moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Travel & Development  

Travel throughout the market served by the Allentown Service Center. Regular travel will be required to various company-owned facilities, client offices, and events for training, sales, and networking initiatives. 

Security

The employee may not use illicit drugs during their employment with ECF. ECF operates in several high-security environments which require individuals who are able to pass security background checks. The employee is required to pass security background checks that meet our underwriting standards. The employee is required to have a valid driver's license and driving record that meets our underwriting standards. We reserve the right to reject an applicant or terminate an employee whose criminal or driving record fails to meet our underwriting criteria.
