Procedure for Connecting a Diesel Generator to a 32 A Plug

This procedure outlines the essential steps for safely connecting a diesel generator to a 32 A plug at the Yackandandah Primary School. It is designed to ensure that the process is conducted efficiently and safely, minimizing any risk to personnel or equipment. Follow these guidelines to maintain operational integrity and safety.

  1. 1

    Verify Equipment Readiness

Check that the battery is not isolated. The battery is located on the side of the generator away from the main panel.

  2. 2

    Position the Generator

Position the generator near the toilet block at an angle so that the exhaust points away from the doors of the toilet block to ensure safety and proper ventilation.
  3. 3

    Connect the Power Cable

Carefully connect the power cable to the 32 A industrial power socket and ensure it is also securely connected at the generator end. Ensure both connections are firm and secure to prevent any accidental disconnection
  4. 4

    Start the Generator

First, ensure that the safety stop is not active. Then press the manual mode button (denoted by a small hand icon 🤚 on the UI) and subsequently press the manual start button (also denoted by a small hand icon 🤚 on the UI).

  5. 5

    Check Voltage Balance

Once the generator is started, check that the voltages are balanced. Look for balanced on all three phases. At this point, there is no load on the generator as the switchboard hasn't been switched to generator mode yet.
  6. 6

Turn Off the Mains Power Switch

Go to the switchboard and turn off the mains power switch (Main Switch Grid) to ensure the generator can take over without interference.sweetprocess.com/video/6NjvC69.mp4
  7. 7

Turn on the generator keyed switch

Use the key to turn on the generator keyed switch

  8. 8

    Shed the Load

Switch off all loads to allow for a controlled reintroduction of power once the generator is operational.
  9. 9

    Switch Off Solar Power

Ensure the solar power system is switched off at its separate switchboard to prevent it from conflicting with the diesel generator.
  10. 10

    Switch to Generator Power

Use the Manual transfer switch (Generator switch in diagram) to disconnect from the mains and connect to the generator, preparing to power the school from the generator.

The manual transfer switch has a small bump that points towards the side that is active.
  11. 11

Power the School from the Generator

Turn on the main switch to the generator supply so that power now flows from the generator to the school. We need to bring back the loads that were shed earlier.
  12. 12

Reintroduce Loads in a Controlled Fashion

Gradually bring back the loads to ensure a stable and controlled power supply from the generator.
